Changing Your Minecraft Server Version
Want to run a different version of Minecraft or switch to a new server type like Paper or Forge? Just follow these easy steps!
Step 1 – Go to the “Versions” Menu
In the left-hand menu, scroll down and click More, then choose Versions.
Step 2 – Choose Your Preferred Minecraft Software
You'll now see a list of available server software options. Each one offers different features:
- Vanilla – The official, unmodified Minecraft.
- Paper – Optimized for performance and plugin support.
- Forge – Designed for modded Minecraft using mods.
- Fabric – Lightweight alternative for mods.
- Purpur, Pufferfish, etc. – Extra features and performance tweaks.
⚠️ Warning: Versions labeled “Experimental” (like Folia or Quilt) may be unstable. Use at your own risk.
Step 3 – Choose a Minecraft Version
In this example, we’ll select Paper. You’ll now see all available versions for that software.
Click on the version you want to install, for example 1.21.1.
Step 4 – Select a Build and Install
You can now choose a specific build of the selected version. These are minor updates—usually, you should pick the highest one.
- Wipe Server Files: Enable this if you want a fresh start (this will delete EVERYTHING!)
- Install: Click to begin the installation.
⚠️ Warning: Enabling Wipe will permanently delete all your current files.
Step 5 – Start Your Server
After installation, a new server.jar
will be ready. Click Start to launch your server with the selected version.
✅ All done! Your server is now running the Minecraft version you chose.
