What is Space Station 14?

Space Station 14 (SS14) is an open-source, round-based multiplayer roleplay sandbox and a modern remake of the cult classic Space Station 13. Players crew a space station that almost always ends in chaos, and every round tells a different story.
How a round works
Section titled “How a round works”Each round, players get a job on the station: engineer, doctor, scientist, security officer, janitor, cargo technician, captain, and more. Every job has its own tools, access and responsibilities. The shared goal is to keep the station running; disasters, bad decisions and hidden threats make sure that doesn’t go smoothly.
Antagonists
Section titled “Antagonists”Some players are secretly antagonists, such as traitors or cultists, with hidden objectives: sabotage a system, steal an item, eliminate a crew member, all while blending in. That hidden conflict is what makes rounds unpredictable.
Deep simulation
Section titled “Deep simulation”The station’s systems are connected: atmosphere and pressure, power and wiring, chemistry and medicine, machines and construction. A small mistake in one system escalates into a station-wide emergency if nobody notices.
A social sandbox
Section titled “A social sandbox”Much of the fun is player interaction. Miscommunication, roleplay, panic and incompetence are part of daily life on the station. The biggest threat is often not the antagonist but an underqualified crew member with access to critical systems, or the clown.
Engine and performance
Section titled “Engine and performance”SS14 runs on Robust Toolbox, a modern C# engine, instead of Space Station 13’s BYOND. That means better performance, higher player counts, smooth top-down 2D movement and fewer technical limits. For server owners it means a stable, scalable server.
Open source and community-driven
Section titled “Open source and community-driven”The game is developed by volunteers and actively maintained. Communities run their own servers with their own rules and mechanics, and development follows community feedback.
Why host your own server?
Section titled “Why host your own server?”- Public or private access, with a whitelist for serious roleplay.
- Your own admins, rules and configuration.
- A place to build a long-term community.
At OXY the server runs 24/7 with the game panel for files, configuration, backups and reinstalls, and a human support team.
